A Look Inside Josh Widdicombe’s Private Life: From TV Success to Family Behind the Scenes

2 min read

Josh Widdicombe, widely recognised for his sharp humour and regular appearances on Channel 4’s The Last Leg, shares his professional world with several family members who also have strong links to the television industry.

The comedian is set to appear alongside Anita Rani, Babatunde Aléshé, Ekin-Su, Gyles Brandreth, Nick Knowles and Stacey Dooley on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, where he’ll act as the expert on train stations. While Josh enjoys a public profile through his comedy tours and television gigs, his wife, Rose Hanson, prefers a life behind the camera.

Rose and Josh married in 2019 after several years together. She works as a producer in television, contributing to some of the UK’s most well-loved entertainment shows, including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Live at the Apollo. Though she maintains a low public profile, Rose has been an integral part of the success behind these popular programmes.

Josh once spoke candidly about the unusual dynamic of having a creative family during an episode of The Rob Brydon Podcast. Reflecting on how his mother, Joy Widdicombe, worked as a children’s television presenter and created memorable fictional characters, he jokingly imagined a surreal scenario where one of her puppet creations came to life and became his partner. “It wouldn’t be that far-fetched if Zippy became human in a Hollywood film and ended up with me,” he quipped, alluding to the colourful characters from his childhood.

Josh and Rose’s relationship blossomed over six years before they tied the knot. The couple now have two children: a daughter, Pearl, born in October 2017, and a son, Cassius, born in May 2021.

In addition to his comedic work, Josh has been open about personal experiences, including moments of difficulty. On the podcast Parenting Hell, which he co-hosts with comedian Rob Beckett, Josh shared the emotional experience of a miscarriage his wife went through before the birth of their son. His honesty struck a chord with listeners and added a deeply human layer to the persona many know from TV.

While Josh Widdicombe remains a familiar face on British television, it’s clear his home life is just as rich, filled with creativity, resilience, and a shared love for the entertainment world—even if it’s often happening just out of the public eye.
