Casualty Set to Return to BBC One Following Summer Schedule Shake-Up

2 min read

Fans of the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty will be relieved to learn that the series is due to return to their screens very soon, following a temporary hiatus brought on by summer broadcasting changes.

The disruption has largely been due to extensive live sports coverage, with football fixtures and major events like Glastonbury Festival dominating the television schedule. This left loyal Casualty viewers frustrated, especially when the June 29 episode was pulled to accommodate BBC One’s coverage of Glastonbury, causing a notable gap in the show’s usual programming.

Despite the interruption, excitement around the drama has not waned. The series’ current storyline, a special miniseries titled Storm Damage, has captivated audiences with high-stakes developments and surprise guest appearances from actors previously seen in rival soaps like EastEnders and ITV’s Emmerdale.

So far, two of the twelve planned episodes have aired, with the latest ending in a dramatic twist. Viewers were left stunned by the revelation that Holby’s clinical lead, Siobhan McKenzie, was once married to Rich Walker – the new love interest of Stevie Nash. Meanwhile, an intriguing connection appears to be developing between the ever-popular Dylan Keogh and newcomer Sophia Peters, adding another layer of anticipation.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait much longer. Casualty is scheduled to return on Saturday, 13 July, when the series resumes its regular broadcast. However, there will still be a slight adjustment due to Wimbledon coverage. BBC One will air the tennis tournament from 1:15pm, before switching to BBC Two at 6:30pm. This will allow Casualty to be shown earlier than usual, with a revised start time of 8:20pm on BBC One.

In a separate development, Casualty star Melanie Hill – who plays Siobhan – recently addressed speculation that she might be leaving the show. The actress moved to Cardiff to be closer to the series’ filming location, having previously been based in Manchester during her time on Coronation Street. Her relocation has fuelled rumours about her long-term plans, but for now, she remains a central figure in the unfolding drama.

As the summer schedule gradually settles, Casualty is poised to bring viewers back into the heart of Holby’s Emergency Department, where unresolved tensions and fresh storylines await.
