This and subsequent journeys to Japan bring great wealth to Hervé’s village, but, with each return to the Far East, he becomes increasingly tempted by a sensuous concubine and torn between the ideals and comfort of his devoted wife at home and the mystery and beauty of a new love halfway around the world.
