Cult ITV Shows Head To High-Def

Eighties men-in-tights drama Robin Of Sherwood gets a Blu-ray release on 25 October. The acclaimed series, written by Richard Carpenter, combines drama, social realism, historical fact and atmospheric mysticism as Robin and his not-so-merry men go up against the brutal Sheriff of Nottingham. Michael Praed leads an impressive cast including Ray Winstone, Clive Mantle, Judi Trott and Nickolas Grace.

The first 13 episodes get a HD transfer, while special features include an exclusive Making Of documentary and a behind the scenes peek at the HD conversion. The four-disc Robin Of Sherwood: Michael Praed boxset retails at £49.99.

Meanwhile, Space: 1999 – The Complete First Series is also heading to Blu-ray. The cult Gerry Anderson live action ’70s sci-fi show sees a nuclear waste dump on the Moon suddenly explode, blasting it out of orbit and taking the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha on a fantastic voyage of discovery through the stars.

Martin Landau, Barbara Bain and Barry Morse star in this memorable fantasy show filmed at Pinewood Studios.
For the first time anywhere in the universe this series will be available in full high-definition on 11 October 2010, retailing at £79.99. Special features for the eight-disc set have yet to be announced.

Interview: Clash Of The Titans director Louis Leterrier

It’s fair to say Clash Of The Titans is one of those movies that was kicking its heels waiting for the arrival of CGI. While the 1981 classic looks a touch dated now, director Louis Leterrier is in no doubt of the benchmark set by special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen’s stop-motion creatures of Greek mythology.

“The bar was really high. Ray’s movie is amazing and has lasted so many years because of the creatures,” Leterrier says. “I called him twice when prepping the movie because I wanted to kiss the ring, but I also would have loved for him to be involved.”
