Hancock Alternate Intro

More Hancock news (see, we're really excited). This clip has cropped up on YouTube and is apparently the alternative opening scene to Will Smith's rather unorthodox superhero flick. Loads of other great extras will feature on the DVD, and you can read all about it in a forthcoming issue of DVD & Blu-ray Review when we go behind the scenes with Director Peter Berg and the cast...

The Devil's Backbone and Hellboy II On Blu-ray

DVD & Blu-ray Review recently had the chance to chat with visionary director and future Hobbit helmer Guillermo Del Toro about creepy chiller The Orphanage (where he takes producer credits), Hellboy II and the wonders of Blu-ray. In our interview he revealed he's been supervising a Blu-ray version of The Devil's Backbone - the sister movie to his vivid and violent fantasy Pan's Labyrinth. It's a ghost story set in a school for orphans, and like Pan's it's set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil war.

This is what Del Toro told us:

"It’s only recently I have supervised my second major high definition transfer to Blu-ray. The first one was Pan’s Labyrinth and the second one was the transfer of The Devil’s Backbone, which I’m checking right now. Essentially they are piling up the same extras, just cramming them in. I think the Blu-ray format can allow for much more and we’re trying to explore it a little bit now with the Hellboy 2 Blu-ray edition. I think the format is incredibly generous. It allows for a lot of flexibility. "

So Hellboy II is coming to Blu-ray too, and it sounds like it's going to be a packed disc. And finally, could we be seeing further Del Toro titles in high definition?

"Hopefully, I’ll have time in the future to revisit things like Cronos and hopefully Mimic and make those changes."  He told us.

We've got more on this, The Hobbit and The Orphanage in our full interview in issue 118 of DVD & Blu-ray Review in the shops on 26 June.

London Welcomes Will Smith...

Will Smith's new movie, Hancock Premieres in Leicester Square tonight (we've seen it, we liked it). They say any publicity is good publicity...
