Our esteemed Deputy Editor, Mike, is appearing on the box tonight - he'll be on The Gadget Show chatting about HD projectors from the back of a convertible. It's at 8.00pm on Channel Five so you'll have to set the video for Killer Lorries on ITV, but it'll be worth it to check out Mike's expert opinion. And also out of sheer curiousity to know what he looks like, I shouldn't wonder...
Those details again:

The Sword in the Stone in June
What’s the best ever King Arthur film then? Excalibur? First Knight? Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Fine movies all, but none can
hold a moistened scimitar to the greatest and, given the talking animals, probably
most historically accurate of all, the animated classic, The Sword in the
Stone.
Boasting a new anamorphic transfer and 5.1 audio, The Sword
in the Stone: 45th Anniversary Edition will arrive on Disney Region 1 DVD on
17 June for around $29.99. Extras will include will a profile of Richard and
Robert Sherman, the musical geniuses behind some of the greatest Disney scores of
all time, including The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins; a Goofy short,
‘Knight For a Day’, and a Mickey short, ‘Brave Little Tailor’; a ‘Merlin’s
Magical Academy’ game, and a ‘Sword in
the Stone Scrapbook’ interactive stills gallery.
Hailing from the days when Disney didn’t use famous actors
to voice their characters, The Sword in the Stone follows young Wart (Rickie
Sorensen) as he befriends the wizard Merlin (Karl Swenson) and goes on to wield
Excalibur and fulfil his destiny to become Arthur, King of England. Even if, as
a wise peasant once said, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is
no basis for a system of government...
WIN! RENDITION ON DVD!
Apparently these DVDs never touched down on
British soil. Extraordinary...
On the slab today we have a nasty bit of old school French horror, and we’re not talking about eating snails. It’s released on DVD on 12 May, courtesy of Second Sight, for £19.99.
The Blurb:
Guilt ridden after recklessly crashing his car and leaving his daughter severely disfigured, celebrated plastic surgeon Dr Gennesier becomes obsessed with restoring her beauty by transplanting a new face onto her mutilated features. Aided by his devoted assistant Louisa, young woman are lured back to his home to become unwitting ‘donors’ in his horrific procedures.
Although too much for many critics of the day to stomach, Franju’s masterpiece is now considered to be one of the greatest, most influential and disturbing horror films ever made.
We Say:
One of the last few genuine cult classics to make its way onto DVD, you can bet we’re putting a happy face on this one. Unless some French loony carves it off and sticks it on his daughter. Jordan will approve…
Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin'...
Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release a two-disc special edition of the western classic High Noon on Region 1 DVD on 10 June...
Word up - Snoop Dogg's: Hood of Horror hits DVD on the 21 April.
We're not going to attempt to proceed with the faux-street language at this point because frankly we just can't carry it off. Instead, we'll stick to the facts:
It's an anthology movie, in the style of Tales from the Crypt, with Snoop as a kind of Crypt Keeper ('Crib keeper' the press release insists, but even that makes us feel a bit old and uncomfortable...). He also pops up in each of the three stories as inhabitants of the hood "go from bling to blood." Apparently. Stories follow a graffiti artist who wreaks revenge on street thugs, a spoilt kid who has to live with his father’s army pals before he can inherit a fortune and rapper who must pay for the sins he committed on his way to the top. Snoop is joined by an array of familiar names and faces, including Danny Trejo (Planet Terror), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) with cameos from the likes of Method Man and Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander. And it's likely to be all kinds of gory.
RRP is £15.99 and extras include a trailer and a Making Of.

Disc Of The Day: Streamers
Today’s pick is Streamers, Robert Altman’s Vietnam war film from 1983, starring Matthew Modine. It’s being released on DVD by Metrodome on 21 April.
The Blurb:
Streamers is a stunningly gripping portrayal of the lives of four American paratroopers as they prepare to be shipped out to Vietnam.
Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket) gives a stellar performance as one of the young recruits who along with his fellow soldiers are struggling to come to terms with their fears and the realities of going to war. As tension in the barracks escalates and hostility between the men grows increasingly extreme, an underlying aggression swells and the onslaught of violence, even before setting foot on enemy soil is never far away.
We say:
We confess this relatively minor work on the late Altman’s CV wasn’t previously on our radar and feel suitably ashamed. We’re looking forward to checking out Modine in a pre-Full Metal Jacket role as a raw ’Nam recruit...
Look out for the review in a future issue.
Obituaries: Arthur C Clarke (1917-2008), Anthony Minghella (1954-2008)
DVD Review was sad to yesterday learn of the deaths of two men who both made significant but very different impressions on cinema.
