Tosh switches off HD DVD players
Hello Tosh got an HD DVD player? Not any more. Finally, following the loss of some major battles in the hi-def war – with multiple film studios, NetFlix and Best Buy all jumping ship to Blu-ray – Toshiba is officially calling a halt to the offensive. Atsutoshi Nishida, Toshiba’s president and chief executive, said a quick end to proceedings would be the best thing for the HD market... And no doubt limit his company’s losses, which could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars depending on which reports you believe. "We carefully assessed the long-term impact of continuing the so-called 'next-generation format war' and concluded that a swift decision will best help the market develop," Nishida said. The big question is, when will Michael Bay – the man who killed HD DVD – shoot the movie, with a $200m effects budget and Blu-ray discs flung as deadly weapons?
